Plastic comb
binding is one of the most popular forms of paper
binding today. Plastic combs are durable and can be
re-used. Plastic combs are widely used by schools
and businesses, and are also easy for home use.
Purchase options include comb binder machines with
an electric punch or a manual punch. Manual punches
are mainly used for small to medium-volume jobs, and
electric punches are used for medium to high-volume
jobs.
Plastic comb binders first punch the holes in the
paper. The binding comb is then inserted in the
binding machine. The comb binder's handle is pulled,
opening the combs to allow placement of the paper
through the combs. When the plastic comb is closed,
the paper is bound together. Plastic comb binding
machines punch 19 holes along the 11 inch side of a
paper. Plastic combs can bind anything from 3/16
inches (12 sheets of standard 20 pound paper) to 2
inches (425 sheets of standard 20 pound paper).
